So I want to do a catching tutorial, but I was unable to find anything that helped.
Also I do realize that usually people who play pokemon fangames would already know how to catch Pokemon, but I still want to put it in just in case. I gave a choice if people want to do the tutorial, btw.

I'd like to add it to my own fangame too, so I've been searching and wondering as well.
Maybe recording footage of yourself catching a Pokémon and then set it up as a .wav movie within the game might be a workaround, but I haven't tested it myself (and I have never tested the movie feature at all) so take it with a grain of salt, I don't really know.

I've seen it on a reddit post, but my problem with that is the rival is the one giving the tutorial, so now I would need to find out how to change the player appearance to be the rival.

Not exactly a quick and easy solutions, but there are a couple options I can think of.

There was this old plugin by Hollow_Ego called Scripted and Simulated Battles that was capable of letting you make one by controlling the actions of Pokémon and NPCs. It isn't updated to v21 and I don't believe they have any plans to update it themselves, but if you know Ruby enough to try and update it yourself or know someone who might want to help in updating it, that's a possible solution right there.

Or, there's an easier but still time consuming way. During Thundaga's Pog Jam 3 earlier this year, someone named seth_piano made a game called Eevee Goes to School that had a different kind of "battle system" in it. It was hard to tell at first but I realized that they weren't actually battles, but instead they used a bunch of show picture and move picture commands to recreate the battle scene (and pretty accurately at that). So if you put in the work to make it that way, it'd probably be really annoying but you could make a tutorial with that and the average person probably would never tell they weren't watching an actual battle.

You can do that easily you need to change the girl gender to The rival appearance and then in the game use commands pbsetplayer(:player2)

well, there is an updated version of that plugin, but not by the same person. It's called Mid battle dialogue for v20 but it has v21 also. Here's the link: https://reliccastle.com/resources/1043/
