Summary:
Teenager Harlem and his mother Penny get magically transported to
Sunulta City NE, a Chinatown-inspired city in the Pokémon world,
where, on their quest to return home, they must fix broken connections
with the help of Taiyi, the Connection Pokémon.

Gung gung = Grandpa

Baba = Father
Haiyaaaaaah = "An exclamation used when a bad event has occurred"

Known bugs that I can't fix:
Harsh sunlight-boosted Solar Beam executes twice
The game will give you a warning if you save after switching characters. Ignore this and make sure you choose yes.

Really really enjoyed playing this on stream! Some thoughts:

Right from the start you got me hooked in with the intro, it really established itself as a more character driven story, and set the tone for what was to come. I really loved the themes you tackled, and I think you did a great job at tackling them. The writing was great! It was a serious story with some serious messages but the writing still sprinkled some fun comedic tidbits around making for a fun experience.

I loved how the town and exploration felt, the town is big and by the end up it you've visited every nook and cranny, interacting with its various inhabitants , giving the city this feeling of actually being alive. Mixed with the "lore" of the region as a whole that was built up through flavour text, it made for a really good setting that felt real.

Having the two switchable players, one for battles, one for minigames was a really cool gimmick that helped the game stand out, and also helped tell the stories of the two main characters so well. After finishing with Harlem, getting the first flash back as the mother and seeing the roots of all the generational trauma was a good moment. Really cool stuff.

Graphics were also great, the style was consistent and I really really like the main character graphics. Penny looks so cool in her jacket when the throwing animation plays.

One last tidbit that I thought was really nice, I encountered literally 0 bugs, no tile errors, no broken balance, nothing that needed to be fixed. Which is really really impressive to see from a jam game (or a nearly-jam game) that hasn't even been patched yet. Like dayumnmmmm!

If it isn't clear, I really loved this game and thought you told a really good, realistic story with realistic characters. Good job.

What an awesome story! I could definitely see the inspiration from Turning Red and Everything Everywhere All At Once, I love those movies. The flashbacks and the story parallels were all done well, and your writing was great as usual!

I loved the graphics, music and the fakemon designs. I especially loved the panorama you used!

I liked how you used many of the essentials minigames (tile puzzle, voltorb flip, triple triad, duel). Also, the spinning puzzle was so well-designed. I got back to the start so many times haha.

I recognised references for your other games! (Pokemart guy and mime Jr. - Culinary School, Astoria - Eco, and I think there was a Paradise reference somewhere? I forgot.)

Overall, I really enjoyed this game. I loved the dialogue and the gameplay was fun. It's a shame you couldn't submit this for the jam, but good on you for finishing it!
