Welcome to the Map Showcase!

The concept of this thread is simple: post a map for feedback, and or give feedback to others. If you want to get some quick feedback on one or more maps this is the place to do so.

Please keep the following in mind while using this thread:
  • If you notice something that has been posted but hasn't received any feedback, please consider providing the poster with some form of feedback before you move onto later posts.
  • Put some thought and effort into your feedback. While not all short feedback is bad, generally you want to make sure you're offering something worthwhile to the person requesting feedback.
  • Try not to focus too much on small, easily-corrected mistakes such as tile errors. Feel free to bring them up, but they shouldn't be the focus of your feedback if there's something else to discuss.
  • Be respectful and civil. This thread isn't an excuse to be rude to another person or to tell them their screenshot is bad, be helpful instead.
While this thread is meant for feedback on maps, Relic Castle also has other threads for feedback on general ideas, screenshots, and such. If what you're seeking feedback on is more suited there, please post it in the appropriate thread:

Nice map! Love it! But what is the mailbox doing infront of the top-left house?

The-Red-Ex did give you *some* of his trees. Have you asked him about the other ones? I mean, you can see his other trees in his maps (001,002,003,004,etc.).

Moving back, the grass is neatly laid out along with the flowers. I'm just eager to ask about the statue, it doesn't (just to me, I might be wrong) blend well with the path; is it, um..., intended?

I totally missed that mailbox one. I moved the house like ten times and that is what happens. xD

I asked him privately. He actually allowed me to use the Dawn-Tileset. (Even the non public one). He's a cool dude. :3

The perspective of the statue really seems strange... I chose a Mystery Dungeon OW as Base, maybe I should change that.

Thanks for the critique! :)

Hey guys, this is my first post on here so I'm a bit shy.

This is a picture of the first town of my first project. The town is called Penchant Town and it's the starting town of Pokemon Creations (name probably not final yet) and its the town of the final gym leader. If anyone is interested in being a part of the Pokemon Creations team, please let me know (there's currently three of us). Well, here's the map. Please keep positive criticism. Have a great day!

Woah, that is a crazy saturated palette for your tiles, my eyes kind of hurt looking at it.
Is there not supposed to be a path to the houses in the back, as the houses in the front are on the path, which is a bit odd.
Your grass tiles have this band that makes rows when they are used, and it's really catching my eye now that I got used to the palette a bit.
Finally, how do you get to the gym?

Hey, sorry for the crazy saturated palette. As for the paths, it is a bit odd how the houses in the back are not on the path, i can try putting them on the path if you want to. Finally, you would have to have the hm surf to get to the Penchant Town gym. Since it's the last gym, you would have to go around the region and battle the other seven gyms and obtain the hm surf.

Hey everyone, with the Game Jam in full swing I decided to dedicate my day today to mapping. I am actually entering the Game Jam this time, and with a game that is similar to what I had planned for Pokemon Aura, only on a much smaller, much more realistic and achievable scale. Anyway, I made a map for Phenac City, the city you will start out in when playing the game. If you know the original Phenac City then you'll notice that it isn't the exact same as before, and that's due to the limitations I had with using public tilesets, I tried the best I could to work around things, but it got a bit tricky... XD Anyway, feedback would be MUCH appreciated, and also some ideas on what to do to make it less empty would be helpful, because I wanted to make it look fuller but I couldn't do that without sacrificing the mobility. Also, I know palm trees cannot grow on pavement and rocks, there are supposed to be dirt planters under them like in the original, but I had no way to represent that using my current tileset.
With that all said, here is the map! Please give as much feedback as you can, as I really think there is a lot I can improve on.

Oh, and in case you were wondering, the exits to the town don't just lead to nowhere, it will be like in the original Pokemon XD where leaving town takes you to the map, so when you step on the tile under the arch thing it will take you to the map. Also, the brown tiles around the town are supposed to be desert.

This is from my ROM hack again and it's actually the first cave I map, I know it's a little different, the player will encounter Pokemon only in grass. Any comments?

It's interesting and different which I appreciate (w
Especially with the grass, it's pretty good).
A small question I have is with the second opening on the left, does it continue the cave or does it do something else?
Eh, that's all I have to say.

My only thought is that it's a bit strange for grass and especially trees to be growing in a cave where sunlight presumably has a hard time reaching them (unless there's some other light source). Perhaps there's something else you could use instead? Patches of luminescent cave moss/fungus or similar?

Alternatively, if you're thinking of something like the end room of Terminus Cave, it might be effective to use a fog to show light streaming down. That said, I agree with Phoenixsong that this is a really neat opportunity to innovate with tiles, so moss or fungus would be even cooler in my opinion if you have a resource with them or time to make them!!

Thanks a lot! unfortunately this is from a ROM hack so I can't use a fog to show light streaming down. Then I guess I will have to work with moss/fungus. Anyway, thanks again!

Oh, those are looking really cool! The only things that stand out to me are more about the tiles than the layouts (not because the layouts are boring, but because I know next to nothing about how to map the insides of buildings to begin with! XP), but a few minor things about those:

• In the second screenshot, I'm not sure if the darker wood tiles are supposed to be distributed that way - they might be meant as shadows for the left and top edges of the room under the walls? That said, I'm not looking at your tileset, only at what they look like in the room itself, so I could very easily be wrong anyway!

• The door against the wall in the second and third screenshots might look better if it was spread across three tiles, so there's a one-tile opening through which for players to walk and the frame surrounds it - just like the carpets. Since I'm guessing it leads to an entryway/carpet in itself, I get the feeling it might work better from a gameplay perspective! (Basically, because of the way the frame tucks into the edges of each of the walkable tiles, the opening looks too narrow to be too tiles wide - it doesn't seem like an issue in the second screenshot, but because of the floor tiling in the third one, it's a lot more apparent how it aligns!)

Other than those two issues, it looks great as far as I can tell!! I'm especially interested to know if you can interact with the notebook in the middle room!

Thank you so much!

I double-checked the tileset, and I think you're right! I was under the impression it was some kind of odd flooring pattern, but I see where the shadows are now! XP

I'm glad you caught that before I started eventing there, a three-tile door sounds way better to work with! This tileset doesn't have one, but I don't think it'll be hard to add one in from another!

You can, actually! At the moment it just says it's a guide to the region (one of the protagonist's dads is a bit of an overplanner, and he's been studying the region to prepare for their move), but I was thinking that it could mention popular locations in various cities if the player chooses to read it. (an observatory in one city, a massive library in another, etc)

Thanks again for your help!

Welp, I guess since I'm making test maps using my WIP tileset, I amy as well show them off here, eh?

I know it's probably obvious, but I'm not really much of a mapper, but hopefully by posting stuff here I'll get better.

It's not really that bad. I think if you make the road bend slightly less like a right angle and more curved then I think it would pretty solid.

I made a new map, and I wanted to see if anyone had any advice for it...especially for the long path on the western side.
Thx :)
I quite like this map! You did a really good job on it. The only advice I could really think of for you is to curve the river and possibly the path as well. It would just end up looking more natural. But, overall, really nice job!
