Welcome to the Map Showcase!

The concept of this thread is simple: post a map for feedback, and or give feedback to others. If you want to get some quick feedback on one or more maps this is the place to do so.

Please keep the following in mind while using this thread:
  • If you notice something that has been posted but hasn't received any feedback, please consider providing the poster with some form of feedback before you move onto later posts.
  • Put some thought and effort into your feedback. While not all short feedback is bad, generally you want to make sure you're offering something worthwhile to the person requesting feedback.
  • Try not to focus too much on small, easily-corrected mistakes such as tile errors. Feel free to bring them up, but they shouldn't be the focus of your feedback if there's something else to discuss.
  • Be respectful and civil. This thread isn't an excuse to be rude to another person or to tell them their screenshot is bad, be helpful instead.
While this thread is meant for feedback on maps, Relic Castle also has other threads for feedback on general ideas, screenshots, and such. If what you're seeking feedback on is more suited there, please post it in the appropriate thread:

I have this thing here. What do you think? I'm mostly interested in criticism of the tiles, because all of them, except for the tall grass one, are custom-made.

Well, to be honest, aside from the trees that are side-by-side appearing to blend into one another, I don't actually have anything to complain about. It looks really good!

@44tim44 Your map look phenomenal dude, all the small details really bring it to life and make it shine.
I love all the variations of rocks, and their placement makes it never look like there's too much or not enough or not enough variation - you did a great job with everything.
It's such a simple map, but its handled perfectly, it feels like a real cave just looking at it, I love it dude

The mountains look really nice but I'm not the biggest fan of the puddles. The fact that they're essentially composed of one color and have a sharp black outline seems to make them contrast with the rest of the tileset. I'd recommend adding some sort of shading on the inner edge to give the puddles more depth, which should allow them to blend into the environment better.

Here is my first map after almost 3-4 years. I'm quite happy of how tiles and map turned out. There are some errors mainly when tiles are overlaping so please don't point those out. Hope you like it.

A nice little route~ It really reminds me of the first route in HGSS, right after you leave New Bark Town! The first thing that stands out is that you can't travel from east to west, as the ledges seem to block all movement. (Dunno if that's intentional or...) Truth be told, while the general layout of the map certainly is nice, I'm not that fond of the placement of ledges. the ones in the center, on top of the "sand path" makes kinda appear like there is no form of elevation whatsoever, as if the ledge is a mere speedbump, I'd try to use 1 type of flooring under ledges. The large ledge in the southeast feels a bit unnecessary, you already have the ledge directly above that to allow for grassless back-tracking, now it kinda gives an annoying impression, as it serves no real purpose, other than forcing you to go around it, Maybe replace it with a tree or two?

that's pretty much all I have to say about it. A lovely little map, apart from those "curved" ledges. Hope to see more from you. =)

Thanks! Man what really happened is I forgot to remove the ledges as they were mostly place holders. I've edited the ledge with sand path under it, looks better now ? The large ledge in the southeast really is necessary because the above ledge is not "avaliable" at the very start. There will be quite a lot of backtracking on that route so I have to make those " safe way to home" ledges really, they are all there intentional. But thank you for your input on mapping. Hopefully I'll have some more maps ready soon!

Updated the above map with new version.

My turn :)

I do like the tile work on (whether yours or from a public tileset) the map. Adds a bit of a unique flair to it. My only critique would be that the map feels rather large - it would take a lot of time to traverse on foot. Also the stone pathway feels very dull, repetitive and empty.

I like the tileset, too!

I'd actually make 3 towns with the 3 different house styles. But keep those a little smaller like Sparta suggested. Mabe with the exception for the big skyscrapers(the ones with orange roofs). They feel like they belong into a big city.

I would also try to not keep my villages that sqare and add a little more detail.
Mabe also have a gap in the fence somewhere and put the cut tree and the pokéball there. Mabe add some gardens to the houses while I think that the grass surrounding doesn't fit the modern buildings. Mabe add a fountain or little park(green + benches with some plants) in the middle of the city if it's so big. You can be creative here ...

Also it is your project ... so if you disagree with me just ignore my comments.

Both of you guys are absolutely right. The criticism sure helps :). The tileset I used is here:
_WARNING_16x16 pixels, u need to manually convert it to 32x32

The tileset is amazing ... may I use it, too?
And if yes whom do I credit?

Hello! Can someone tell me his/her opinion about this? I know it's not really good but at the same time I don't know what to do to improve it...

I like the idea behind this little village. I also like the way you shaped land/water.

I think the left side is really good. Mabe adding a mud path to the house entrances and making the bottom tree line vary in height may be a good idea.

The right side on the other hand feels kind of empty. Mabe making the bridge there only go to the shore and shifting the right upper corner a little down left would solve this.

leilou, credit FL (creator of Pokemon Island) and Fangking Omega. Till now, I haven't seen any restrictions as this tileset was uploaded for public use.
Kostas, leilou is right, the eastern half seems a bit empty. Otherwise, the map is perfect :)

How 'bout this?

It is a nice map! It's structure makes sense and it seems well playable. I specially like the left site, 'cause it looks so natural :)
Just a few tips to improve the map a litte:
  • The borders look nice, but the middle looks very empty. I don't know about you OWs, but maybe some trees, bushes or something like a small stall (which sells warm food) to fill the white space would seem nice.
  • I am not sure whether it is on purpose, but the right looks like humans planted the small bushes and keep that part decent. Maybe a few bushes on the higher hills and with different spaces inbetween (or some rocks, there should be quite a few tiles) could make that site look more natural.
  • The edges in combination with the Pokeballs look very linear. Again, I don't know how it looks while playing, but maybe placing one Pokeball somewhere else or moving one edge could fix that.

I did work more on the left side, glad it gave an output. Well yes, the middle portion does look empty. The presence of a stall is an awesome idea, never thought of it. No, the right isn't a plantation, but I'll modify it to keep it more natural as you suggested :). Thank you man! Told me a lot of things I did not perceive.

You are welcome! After all, that is what this thread is there for. :)

Well, I decided to post a map myself after all, since I'm really digging some critique. Please be as honest as possible! (I know, there's a tree cut off and the stairs are just placeholders. I just have not done these tiles, yet.)

Nice map! Love it! But what is the mailbox doing infront of the top-left house?

The-Red-Ex did give you *some* of his trees. Have you asked him about the other ones? I mean, you can see his other trees in his maps (001,002,003,004,etc.).

Moving back, the grass is neatly laid out along with the flowers. I'm just eager to ask about the statue, it doesn't (just to me, I might be wrong) blend well with the path; is it, um..., intended?
