Released Pokémon Ashen Frost [19 Cases!]

This project has a release available. The full version is still a work in progress.

A game by @Michael and @Ekat
Pokémon Ashen Frost, formerly Pokémon Present, revolves around Sylvester, a kind, albeit surly, officer-turned-detective in Riverview City. Sylvester works alongside his not-quite-canine unit, Swinub, to solve minor cases. Tracking down missing cheques and ice sculpture vandals doesn't come without risks, however; the frigid metropolis is home to ordinary people and criminals alike. To uncover the truth, Sylvester steps on the toes of some of the city's most important figureheads... as well as the mafia's.

  • A story-driven plot consisting of 19 cases, involving searching for clues, presenting evidence and solving mysteries
  • A fully fledged case system, complete with its own UI and features
  • Pokémon from Gen 1-8 available
  • A continuously expanding city to explore, complete with a ton of side content
  • Reborn AI and custom weather to keep players on their toes
  • An optimization area to allow any party member to become battle-ready in no time!
  • An overworld encounter system, with areas involving wild grass being very far and few between
  • A unique battle tower system, complete with random teams akin to the battle factory as well as its own field effect
  • Fully functional and running on MKXP, yielding improved performance and modular screensizes

Nothing wrong I just wanted to play it
You can still play it! Don't let the idea of only being able to play as a fixed (in this case, male) character hold you back! All of Michael and Ekat's games are fantastic in its gameplay and writing and definitely worth a playthrough.

What's wrong with that? Ekat has some great games with female protagonists only, you should check them out.
Ty for the kind words. If you're at all curious, the game does have a reasoning for its choice of protag.

The shorter of the first few points is that AF is not structured like a standard Pokémon game. No gyms, no evil team after a legendary Pokémon, no 3-starter selection, etc. AF is also very character-driven. Much of the plot centers around the MC and their relationships So, we decided to go with a protagonist who was their own character, rather than a self-insert. (I also just generally prefer to write talking protagonists over the standard Pokémon silent protagonist. But, that's purely a personal preference. I understand that people aren't always looking for that in Pokémon games.)

As for Sylvester (the MC) being a middle-aged white dude, it's a deliberate choice. He has a (not-so-great) family heritage behind him. His identity plays into who he is as an individual, as well as into the more subtle themes the game has. Without getting too deep into spoiler territory, I decided to take the stereotypical hardboiled/noir character and deconstruct it a bit. Syl initially seems to embody many common traits a detective archetype has. But, as the game goes on, the player begins to realize there's a lot more to his character.

People not being what they seem is a bit of a running theme. (There's also the comedic relief not being so funny when you analyze why you're laughing, people's intentions taking on a different light when you learn more about them, a few hidden identities here and there, etc.) At the end of the day, his masculinity and family background (as well the challenges/benefits it brings) are absolutely a part of who Syl is.

After just under a year of development, Case 15-19 are now here!

Important notes to returning players:

  • Do not reload within the Aurora Wolves HQ. This building has been completely revamped and it'll probably only end up messing with your save.
  • Please equip all mods on your Pokemon before playing the new demo. The items will change and will be in the incorrect bag pocket upon returning to your save, which will only end badly.
  • There's like, four backsprites and a couple portraits missing due to the fact that I deemed them unimportant to include at this time. (I mean, who cares, they're literally backsprites.) I'll probably release a graphical update in the coming days/weeks with these graphics.
  • The game now runs on a 24-minute day timer as opposed to an actual clock. The game's time can be change within any Pokémon Center.
  • To begin Case 15, talk to this NPC in Syl's Dining Room as Sylvester.

Please report any bugs found here or in the bug reporting channel on our Discord. And that's about it, to both returning and new players, I hope you enjoy Ashen Frost!

I am stuck at case 16 fogdale village. I have snatched back the necklace from the Sableye, did the prank on lucy and defeated the double battle. The game prompted me that I did everything and I should "relax and wind down" but nothing is progressing. According to the walkthrough, case 16 is supposed to start after this but it didnt. Is there anything I can do to solve this issue?
