Released Pokemon This Gym of Mine

This project has a release available. The full version is still a work in progress.

NOTICE:
I am aware of a ROM hack version of this game is circulating around. This is NOT that. This version requires no emulator to play and is exclusively for PC. To play, just download the ZIP file from one of the links below. Extract the file and run the game file. I have no affiliation with any of the ROM hack versions of this game.

As for the information relating to v5.0.0, I have run into a major snag in development. To recap, I have been attempting to update this game to Pokemon Essentials v20.1. I knew this would be a bit risky, as Pokemon This Gym of Mine runs on Pokemon Essentials v18.1. And, lo and behold, I ran into an issue. When attempting to load my save, it threw an error after compiling and proceeded to delete my save file... I attempted to run the 20.1 version as a brand new game and it did not throw an error, meaning the issue comes when it tries to load the save.

I know I said that if previous saves were incompatible that I would continue on with version 18.1. However, there are still a number of reasons that I want to update to v20.1 Essentials. So, I decided to ask you guys how I should proceed. At the end of the day, you guys will have to play the game and wait for the update. As such, I want to hear your thoughts. How I see it, there are three ways I can go forward:

1. I can stay with v18.1.
This will require no additional dev time, but glitches such as the weather glitches and level-up glitches will, likely, be permanent issues in the game. In addition, I will lose out on the updated encounter capabilities of v20.1, meaning that any new Pokemon will be limited to newly added areas, and the new Pokemon I add will be limited. In addition, this may cause some Pokemon to be unnecessarily rare, as I cannot directly alter encounter rates in-document.

2. I commit to updating to v20.1, keeping up an updated version of PTGOM 4.0 as a legacy version.
This will require more dev time, but this will deal with glitches such as the weather glitch and the level-up glitch. In addition, this will allow for more robust encounters, potentially balancing out types such as Bug and Steel, which have been reported to be a bit underpowered. Also, I can look into allowing for multiple save files, as doing multiple playthroughs is quite popular in the community so this will make that easier. However, this does mean that this version will NOT be compatible with old save files.

3. I use this as an opportunity to completely overhaul Pokemon This Gym of Mine.
Let's face facts. This game was made 3 years ago, in a rush, and by an amateur game dev. There are a lot of things I had to bandage over just to make the game playable. Even with all the updates, there are still plenty of holes, such as the crazy amount of revenue buildings can generate, the point of reputation and reputation growth not being made clear, some dialogue needing a bit of refinement, and the fact that half of the game's ranks go by over the span of a minute. I could treat this as a chance to truly refine this game. Rebalancing encounters and buildings, giving a reason for ranks 5-7 to exist, amongst other things. In addition, I could look into plugins and resources, such as multiple save files, that could only be added to v20.1. Personally, this would be the route I like to go, but it would add quite a bit of dev time and would not be compatible with old save files. Just like with option 2, the old version of PTGOM will be kept up as a legacy version.

These are the three routes I feel I can go. No matter what, version 5.0.0 content will be included with the update and version 6.0.0 will come some time after. I want to see what you all think, and I am eager to hear your thoughts.

Notes:
It's random chance that goes into deciding who you face at the Gym. I've done everything I could think of to keep it interesting and avoid repetition, but it may happen once in a while, especially early on. Also, some early-game Trainers get stronger if you leave them be. You can only fight each Trainer once, so make it count!
Finally, there is no barrier between areas. You can access areas containing Pokemon five times your strength straight out the gate!
Have fun you guys!

Hello, recently downloaded the game. I was wondering if there were Alolan forms in the game and if so, how do I evolve a Pokemon that has a Kantonian form but evolves into an Alolan form (specifically Pikachu --> Alolan Raichu). Also, what's the START button on a keyboard?

Hi, is there a place you can get Togepi if you did not select the fairy type gym? Also, does anyone know where rookidee/driftloon is?

So I downloaded this game yesterday, and frankly, I don't want to continue playing it, simply because I picked Fire type. As far as I can tell, there's only 1 fire type in the accessible areas before the first day at the gym, and that's Onix (unless I want to waste more time getting a Smeltix). There's Fletchling, but I'd need to grind it up to level 17 to have it be fire type, and otherwise, I'd need to catch something useless like a Sentret because it can learn Flamethrower. Frankly, this wouldn't be an issue if there was an EXP Share, but as far as I can tell, there isn't. I know some people despise it, but, for people who have other games they could play and lives to live, it's the best thing that's ever happened to Pokemon, cuz most people don't want to spend hours not progressing the tutorial because they happened to choose a type that doesn't have 2 Pokemon in the starting areas. Adding an EXP Share option to the game would be amazing, but at the moment, I genuinely find this game unplayable, and would rather sit through SV's 3 hour long tutorial again, because at least I feel like I'm progressing in that.

Pick up a Gible in Dragon's Den, then complete the puzzles to get to Lillith's house and pick a fire starter.

Later on, like an hour in, you unlock a Blissey trainer, 3/6 level 50 Blissey, which you can grind on.

I'm at the point where I have beaten the rider outside the town hall and went inside to talk with the Mayor. I tried entering the gym and sleeping but each one told me that I needed to speak with the Mayor. When I go to speak with him all he says is "Hello <player name>, how's your day been?" The gym and my bed still won't let me in and I can find a way to progress

Does anyone know why Sunny Day - Solar Beam doesn't work? Solar Beam still takes two turns after I set up Sunny Day for Venuasaur.

My 3rd gym fight I got an Aron that swept my team with Dragon Rage. My 4th gym fight I got an Aron that swept my team with Dragon Rage.

I think I'll try a different game.

I need help. I was doing the gym battles during rank 4 and I accidentally said yes to the gym guy quest but i didn't read the dialog clearly and now I'm stuck with no idea what to do next.

Thank you for telling me about this. However, I was unable to replicate the error. Both moves functioned as normal. Was this a Trainer or in the wild? Where was the battle? What was your team at the time? If you could reply or send me a DM with this information, I'll gladly look into it deeper.
Just downloaded this game, and I had the same error when a Voltorb used Sonic Boom in my gym.

going to bed doesnt help and ive already looked around town
You've talked to everyone around town? Does it let you go to the Gym? If not, what does it say? Otherwise, it might be during nighttime and you talk to a new NPC? I wanna say the Gym guys quest was a real simple chat with someone and a small battle.

I also got this error, and as well as another whenever a wild Aron used Dragon Rage, and when a trainer's Staravia used Double Team in the gym.
It's making it hard to continue when I can't take out the 1st or 4th trainer in a challenge and I have to restart, all because of this problem.
