Released Pokemon This Gym of Mine

This project has a release available. The full version is still a work in progress.

NOTICE:
I am aware of a ROM hack version of this game is circulating around. This is NOT that. This version requires no emulator to play and is exclusively for PC. To play, just download the ZIP file from one of the links below. Extract the file and run the game file. I have no affiliation with any of the ROM hack versions of this game.

As for the information relating to v5.0.0, I have run into a major snag in development. To recap, I have been attempting to update this game to Pokemon Essentials v20.1. I knew this would be a bit risky, as Pokemon This Gym of Mine runs on Pokemon Essentials v18.1. And, lo and behold, I ran into an issue. When attempting to load my save, it threw an error after compiling and proceeded to delete my save file... I attempted to run the 20.1 version as a brand new game and it did not throw an error, meaning the issue comes when it tries to load the save.

I know I said that if previous saves were incompatible that I would continue on with version 18.1. However, there are still a number of reasons that I want to update to v20.1 Essentials. So, I decided to ask you guys how I should proceed. At the end of the day, you guys will have to play the game and wait for the update. As such, I want to hear your thoughts. How I see it, there are three ways I can go forward:

1. I can stay with v18.1.
This will require no additional dev time, but glitches such as the weather glitches and level-up glitches will, likely, be permanent issues in the game. In addition, I will lose out on the updated encounter capabilities of v20.1, meaning that any new Pokemon will be limited to newly added areas, and the new Pokemon I add will be limited. In addition, this may cause some Pokemon to be unnecessarily rare, as I cannot directly alter encounter rates in-document.

2. I commit to updating to v20.1, keeping up an updated version of PTGOM 4.0 as a legacy version.
This will require more dev time, but this will deal with glitches such as the weather glitch and the level-up glitch. In addition, this will allow for more robust encounters, potentially balancing out types such as Bug and Steel, which have been reported to be a bit underpowered. Also, I can look into allowing for multiple save files, as doing multiple playthroughs is quite popular in the community so this will make that easier. However, this does mean that this version will NOT be compatible with old save files.

3. I use this as an opportunity to completely overhaul Pokemon This Gym of Mine.
Let's face facts. This game was made 3 years ago, in a rush, and by an amateur game dev. There are a lot of things I had to bandage over just to make the game playable. Even with all the updates, there are still plenty of holes, such as the crazy amount of revenue buildings can generate, the point of reputation and reputation growth not being made clear, some dialogue needing a bit of refinement, and the fact that half of the game's ranks go by over the span of a minute. I could treat this as a chance to truly refine this game. Rebalancing encounters and buildings, giving a reason for ranks 5-7 to exist, amongst other things. In addition, I could look into plugins and resources, such as multiple save files, that could only be added to v20.1. Personally, this would be the route I like to go, but it would add quite a bit of dev time and would not be compatible with old save files. Just like with option 2, the old version of PTGOM will be kept up as a legacy version.

These are the three routes I feel I can go. No matter what, version 5.0.0 content will be included with the update and version 6.0.0 will come some time after. I want to see what you all think, and I am eager to hear your thoughts.

Notes:
It's random chance that goes into deciding who you face at the Gym. I've done everything I could think of to keep it interesting and avoid repetition, but it may happen once in a while, especially early on. Also, some early-game Trainers get stronger if you leave them be. You can only fight each Trainer once, so make it count!
Finally, there is no barrier between areas. You can access areas containing Pokemon five times your strength straight out the gate!
Have fun you guys!

I want to start playing, I have chosen Dark type and Houndour as a starter but for some reason, no matter how many times I restart, I always get exactly the same Pokémon. Gender: Male | Abilitie: Flash Fire | Nature: Timid (the worst)

I want it to have another ability other than that one and also for its Nature to change to another one other than that one but no matter how many times I have restarted I end up with exactly the same thing...

And regarding the message at the beginning, I vote for option 3. The best for long-term play and the renewals would keep the game alive and although the old save files cannot be used if you feel a renewed game would encourage you to want to start from the beginning, right?

(I have used Google translate, any inconsistencies please tell me)

All the starters are "locked" to be what they are IIRC. However, not tooo long into the game you can buy mints to change the nature for most of the natures. I want to say something like modest? doesnt work as it should.

Are their actually rom versions of this game? I searched around but didnt see any just lies or links to this. I like this game but I do feel theres a lot of tedious parts (farming for rep to move the story on) frame skip would benefit

I want to report a bug in the game that is actually very annoying.
Every time an enemy use the movement "Double Team" an error appears and even if you accept it, it repeats itself ad infinitum.
Attached screenshot and video of the bug

What generation is this game supposed to be in? It is to know whether or not the Pokémon learn a movement by leveling it up or if there is a difference between levels of when they learn said movement.

For Oshawott, I've looked into the event and fixed the error. Sorry about that.
As for the learnsets, they haven't been messed with and should be the same. Is there a Pokemon that isn't learning a move that it should?
As for Picnicker Liz, I did not encounter an issue like this during my test runs, but I am currently trying to make it so that each Trainer can only be encountered once a day, so it should be ironed out in the next update along with some other issues that have been noticed.

Thank you all for your feedback so far! I'm currently in the process of smoothing over some of the game's rougher spots. I hope you all continue to enjoy the game and I'll try and get the next update out as soon as I can!
Hey how do I download the game? I tried to but the file wouldnt open

So I just found this game by watching a zwiggo video and I was wondering, is this game still getting more updates? If so, does that include more Pokemon?
Also, is the fandom/wiki for this game up-to-date?

The creator is remaking the game on a newer version of pokémon Essentials. One of the benefits, I think, will be the ability to have more wild encounters on the routes. As for the wiki, I don't know about it.

Is there a time-table for when those updates will be happening? or are we just hoping that the creator will have time to work on it? I've only been playing for 2 and a half hours and I am already hooked.

There's not a time-table, and I don't expect there to be one until the game is nearly complete, maybe. I don't know the creator but they have work or studies to do as well as a personal life. Maybe they work on the game in any free time that they have but it still means that it's hard to know when the new version will be complete and released.

so i picked the ground type for my gym and ive gone to the house through the cavern of knowledge but when i pick a pokemon and try to teach it the signature move of my gym none of them can learn it? With the dialogue i assumed the pokemon were supposed to be able to learn my gyms signature move but is my assumption wrong?

The pokemon of the house after the cave of knowledge are special because they are given to you with a move they can't learn in any other circumstances. That is what the lady tells you if I'm not mistaken (that she taught those pokemon a special move), not that the pokemon can learn the gym's signature move.
