is there a way for an event to do something along the lines of:
Pick a number between 1 and 5
if 5, then [do something]
else, do nothing

Yes. You can, when setting a variable, set it to a random one in the range

Its one of the multitude of options

Then create conditional branches on if its set to certain values

You could do this all fairly simply through scripting, too, for any needs that require it

I'm sorry, but i don't fully understand what you mean. If it's not too much trouble, could you post a screenshot of an event like that?

Don’t have access to all that atm

Take any other time you set a variable and use the random option available. The variable screen has a lot of options you can pick from when setting it

For reference, what I was referring to now that I have access...

That's a pure eventing way to achieve it

Set to a random value in a range, then use conditional branch to check if it equals that
