Hey so is EBS officially dead or just down for the moment? Does anyone still have a copy of the file if I wanted it?

A lot of people have been asking this... so no personal offense Kelsey but I'm gonna yell for a sec.

EBS is dead and no longer supported by Luka.
Here is a tweet from Marin where he shared a mirror to the last version of EBS.

Okay I'm done yelling.
I'd recommend downloading that and keeping a clean copy for yourself if you have any interest in using EBS since it is dead; there's no guarantee or obligation for Marin to support EBS or keep that link up indefinitely. Besides, (Maruno correct me if I'm wrong) the next version of Essentials is likely to have changes to the battle system, which means EBS will be broken.

Thanks! I'm not offended. I've been out of the loop for several months and just came back and went looking for EBS for a new project, so I was confused. Appreciate the link and the very clear answer :)

There’s another mirror floating around that is allegedly more complete.

To be honest, from the perspective of personal practice, I wouldn’t use resources of which the creator has officially given up and has no plans to provide support for. If something goes wrong (which in most cases it is more likely to) you’re left stranded there without much help as I haven’t yet come across anybody who has been keen enough to study the code and know how the system actually works. Neither does anyone want to take over developing it, so you can throw updates out of the window. Essentials v18 will break more than just a few things. From the things Maruno told me, more than just EBS will not work. It’s not worth you giving up support of a whole engine, updates, bug-fixes and all the good stuff Maruno does in his updates for the sake of one plugin that adds absolutely nothing to your game other than slightly fancier visuals (mind you, since everyone has access to it, it doesn’t add anything special to your game either). That’s one of the reasons I’ve pulled the UPI off the net. I’d rather there not be an EBS floating on the internet at all, than the crap show that will surely come Maruno’s way because of people having issues/bugs/lacking mechanics and not wanting to upgrade Essentials.

In conclusion; you’re all beating a dead horse at this point, and I can’t recommend using resources that even their creator has completely given up on.

All of these are totally valid points, especially for people to consider as they move into the future versions of Essentials. However, at least from my perspective, when I finish a game I'm unlikely to modify it with future essentials updates or anything other than game breaking bug fixes, so that's why I wanted a clean/updated copy of EBS (which I should have already had saved if I had thought about it) just to have for my older games in case something comes up or to put into my current one which will likely be finished before/or not ever make use of Essentials 18. That being said I definitely get the point about the million issues Maruno will face from people trying to use old/broken/dredged up internet versions of EBS and I get why you've pulled it.

I just want to say thanks though- for the response as well as all of the cool content you've made. It was a huge influence on my game making and I've learned a ton from working with your stuff.

Your choice was the right one, Luka. A lot of people do not understand the amount of work and investment involved in actually crafting something even remotely similar to what EBS was, and maintaining longtime support as well. Aside from all the research needed to create it, having to deal with RGSS 1 which has got its own quirks, all the time spent on producing something this big and complicated... But most of all, it's the unwillingness of many to try to make it "work" (even if it works fine out of the box, being plug and play and all), when some kind of incompatibility or "error" appears. Nevertheless, I just wish to say thank you for your contribution, many people really appreciate what you have done. I've watched your video on this issue. I wish you all the best for the future.

As you said, any add-on or modification that is no longer supported should be avoided, especially if the main engine in use is frequently being updated. (Though I gotta ask, could these radical changes Maruno's introducing have anything to do with RGSS3? That'd be a blast).

Back on topic, thank y'all for the link, depending on how much of an impact V18 will have, we'll either stick to using EBS as is, or see if there's anything we can do in regards to retrofitting (though that sounds unlikely). I think many others will follow that approach as well, seeing as there's people who're still using essentials versions that are older than v16, even.
